Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), also known as Co-operative banks, Gramin Banks, are comparatively new-age banking institutions in India. RRBs are governed by Reserve Bank, and are under the control of Central/State Administration. Hundreds of RRBs are there in India, but unlike the public sector banks, their area of service is largely limited. In fact, the primary aim to an RRB is to provide banking services to the rural population in remote areas. RRBs are known for their highly yielding FD schemes and low-interest agriculture loans. Many RRBs have already introduced or in the process of providing ATM, Internet banking and other latest services for their customers. RRBs being a financial institution require a workforce similar to a normal bank, and for which they now depends on IBPS.
