Update for Kerala PSC Staff Nurse Exam Aspirants:
KPSC has published the probability of candidates eligible for DME and DHS recruitment. The cut-off is 27.33 for DME Staff Nurse Exam. However, the cut off is above 40 for DHS, which is a district level recruitment. You may check district-wise probability list (uploaded below) or your profile for individual result status. There wont be any interview this time for PSC Staff Nurse recruitment. Those who are in the shortlist/probability will get joining letter as per their rank in the forthcoming list. Rank list for DHS is expected in the month of July. Notification regarding One-Time verification (OTV) for DME is now available in your KPSC Thulasi profile.

Staff Nurse or Nursing Officer is the title used to designate the vacancies in the nursing sector. Nurses are directly taken to Grade-II role when it comes to Kerala Health Department. Nursing opportunities come under Health Services and Department of Medical education [DME]. PSC had already conducted an examination for the recruitment to Health Services on 24-04-2017. The latest notification is for the selection of nurses to DME.
The selection is through an entrance exam conducted by Kerala PSC (KPSC). Candidates wishing to participate in this hiring needs to register a profile at the Kerala PSC website before they could apply online for the DME Staff Nurse Exam.

Candidates holding multiple degrees (BSc Nursing, MSc Nursing, etc.) may register for the recruitment by selecting their highest qualification. In the next page, you will see your photo and signature, the one that you have given during registration. Details of the last Kerala PSC Staff Nurse Exam 2017
Kerala is #1 when it comes to the number of students opting for Nursing as a profession. After the course, many of the students prefer jobs in the Gulf, or they take IELTS training and migrate to anywhere in the western world. Thanks to the private hospitals which pay nuts, nursing is still a tagged as a low-profile job in our State. Public sector jobs are also pretty limited in the Nursing field and are mainly in State level and Central establishments like AIIMS, JIPMER, etc.
The last Kerala PSC Staff Nurse notification was in 2010, and the validity of that rank list is about to end in June 2017. Hence, KPSC is now collecting online applications from Nursing graduates and diploma holders for the upcoming vacancies in 2018 and beyond. As per the notification, the current Staff Nurse Vacancy in the State is just six. However, the new list will hold for at least three years, and we hope that at least 220-300 people will get a job from this list. The time and venue of examinations will be communicated to candidates through the hall ticket available at KPSC Thulasi.

Staff Nurse vacancy: Eligibility
The minimum educational eligibility for applying the Kerala PSC Staff vacancy is a 3 yr diploma in nursing, and Kerala Nursing Council registration. BSc and Post BSc candidates who have taken their degree from a university outside Kerala in the regular stream also eligible to apply, subject to KNC registration. A pass in plus-two /VHSE under science stream. Age limit: 20-36 without relaxation. Three percentage of the vacancies are reserved for DA applicants.
A court case is going on regarding the PSC’s clause on science stream. However, at present, the registration for Staff Nurse Grade II exam requires the applicants to have exposure to science subjects.
Staff Nurse Salary and Promotion in Kerala
After the revision in 2014, the new salary scale for the Staff Nurse in Kerala is 27800 to 59400. There is a DA of , and House Rent Allowance is from 250 to 1680. Staff Nurse scale is eligible for a city compensatory allowance of 350. When you add up, the total salary is around 30000 INR. However, as Kerala State employee you should contribute at least 10 of Basic+DA to the NPS scheme, that is around 3000 INR. Hence the in-hand salary for the newly selected Staff Nurse would be around 27000.
When it comes to the promotions, Staff Nurses have the scope to move from Grade I, to II, Head Nurse, Nursing Superintendent scales, and above that. Promotion depends on the vacancy, but a grade pay is available as per the experience. A minimum yearly increment of 10 is also applicable. DME nurses get posting to Medical Colleges and related institutions.
PSC Staff Nurse Exam Preparation: Syllabus
As always, the Kerala PSC didn’t mention the syllabus of the Staff Nurse examination in their notification. However, we got hold of the new and updated syllabubs for the examination in April. Within a time-limit of 75 minutes, candidates have to complete 100 questions of one mark each. There was negative marking for the last Staff Nurse Grade II Exam; it is 1/3 for each wrong answer.

PSC Kerala Staff Nurse vacancy: Next Exam date
As you might know, PSC Kerala has conducted the offline examination for Staff Nurse Grade 2 on 29th of April 2017. The next opportunity for staff nurses in health services would be in 2020. An alternative for this vacancy is the DME Staff Nurse Grade 2 job in medical colleges. There is an existing PSC list for the DME staff nurse, and it is valid up-to 2018. The current list will fulfill approximately 800 vacancies in DME the government recently created through an order.
