Nowadays, the word IBPS [Full Form: Institute of Banking Personal Section] means bank exams for most of the people following the jobs and career options in the financial sector. IBPS is an independent establishment based in Mumbai, which oversees online tests and interviews for its clients in India. IBPS customers are mainly banks, insurance companies and government organisations, which take staff through mass-level recruitments. Previously, the bank entrance exams in India were highly unorganized as each firm had their own process. As IBPS joined hands with the public sector banks to introduce IBPS recruitment, the number of examinations has come down, and the selection process became comfortable.
Nineteen Banks in the public sector [PSU] are the primary beneficiaries of the IBPS system.
Let’s talk about the IBPS Exam and the approximate number vacancies in each category. As of 2017, there are four major IBPS Recruitments, if you take only the ones happening through the official website www.ibps.in.

IBPS PO: Probationary Officer (PO) or Management Trainee (MT) is the first level of the management cadre in Indian Banks. POs get the Assistant Manager position as they complete the training period which lasts for a few months after IBPS selection. The approximate salary for IBPS PO is 35000 INR upon appointment. The cumulative number of vacancies in 2016 was around 8880, and we expect a very near figure in 2017.
IBPS Clerk : A Clerk or Assistant is the person you meet as soon as you enter a bank branch. Teller, customer relationship person, they have many different roles in a bank. IBPS Clerk Recruitment is a state-wise selection test which picks more than 18000 clerks annually for the participating banks listed above. As of 2017, Clerical staff get approximately 21000 as their initial salary.
IBPS Specialist (SO) : Specialists in Banks are officers close in rank to the IBPS POs, and they get a similar salary package. However, you may not see the specialist officers (SOs) frequently involving any of the front-office activities of the bank. They are professionally qualified officers who take care of the in-house operations of the banks. IBPS selects Specialist Officers (SO) to IT, LAW, Accounting, Marketing, and many other departments essential for the functioning of the branches. Last year, there was combined total vacancy of approximately 1200 specialists in IBPS banks.
IBPS RRB: IBPS PO, Clerk and SO recruitments you see above are intended for the Public Sector Banks, and registrations for them happen at different dates. The IBPS RRB, on the other hand, is a combined exercise for hiring employees to the 56 Regional Rural Banks in India. There are four major vacancies in this category of IBPS recruitment; RRB Assistant, Officer Scale-I, II and III. As per the latest IBPS RRB notification released on in July 2017, there are about 15300 openings. IBPS RRBs pay employees on IBA scale. Hence they will get a total package equaling to the PSU Bank staff in a similar cadre.
IBPS vacancies are not limited to the Clerk, PO, RRB and Specialist CWE listings on IBPS.IN. Banks like RBI, SBI, NABARD, and Insurance companies like LIC, NICL, UIIC and many others prefer the institute for HR initiatives.
